Open studio is a time for our term students, past and current, to independently practice and refine their pottery skills.

Practice, practice, practice.

Open studio includes access to basic pottery equipment, storage, and firing (bisque and midfire).

Studio access time must be reserved in advance. Each reservation is limited to 1 persons and is 3 hours per day.

What’s included:

  • Recycled clay is available for purchase at $2/KG in studio.

    Clayworks / Keanes midfire clay is available for purchase in studio ($20-$50/bag).

    Only midfire clay is permitted in the studio. Please ask one of a member of our team otherwise.

    Studio glazes are available at +$5/KG firing price (see ‘Firing’). Outside glazes permitted but to follow firing agreements.

  • Storage for any pieces made during open studio is available. Makers are responsible for the maintenance of their own works.


    Pieces made during open studio are to be dated, and will be stored for a maximum of 3 weeks before being recycled.

  • Bisque (1000C) and midfire (1200C) firings are available at $12.50/KG. Pieces are weighed before firing.


    ‘Terrapotter Studios — Public Firing Agreement’ must be completed before each firing.

By reserving your open studio time, you are agreeing to the studio policies and guidelines outlined below. The studio reserves the right to remove and withhold access to the studio for any reason.

  • Studio access time is only available to students who have completed a minimum of 1 term at TPS (or equivalent). Please contact the TPS team if unsure.

  • Potters attending open studio are responsible for the clean up of any equipment used, and the maintenance/outcome of their own pieces.

  • We ask that potters joining the open studio space respect their fellow makers by maintaining a positive workspace, and minimising any unnecessary noise.
